Gamal Al-Ghitani wins the Sheikh Zayed Award for Literature 2009 for his book Ren.

Date: 2009-03-18

Egyptian author GAMAL AL-GHITANI has won the

SHEIKH ZAYED AWARD FOR LITERATURE 2009

with his book Ren.

This year, the Literature Prize is awarded for a work that ventures into the ancient history of Egypt in an effort to revive the myths and storiest hough the use of sufistic parables. The author's spiritual journey and travel from the Pyramid Plateau to the Southern parts of Egypt was published by Dar Al Shourouq in 2008.

Theadvisory council decided that Gamal Al-Ghitani's work manifests the intersections of the spiritual and carnal, the artistic and intellectual, exceeding the boundaries of time and history.

In May 2009 Arabia Books will publish Gamal al-Ghitani's The Zafarani Files, the intrigues of an old Cairo quarter, in a parable about political and personal freedoms. Arabia Books also distributes Ghitani's Zayni Barakat and Pyramid Texts, translated by Humphrey Davies.
