About Arabia Books
Take two publishers, one based in London and one in Cairo. Mix them together and what do you get? A brand new publishing house called Arabia Books, with the goal to publish the most exciting contemporary fiction from the Arabic world.
The London house is Haus Publishing, specialising in quality and beautifully-produced non-fiction; the Egyptian component is American University in Cairo Press (AUC), the world's leading publisher of Arabic writing in translation. Haus has recently founded Arabia Books and will initially publish ten plus fiction titles per year, with the list growing as the company expands. The fiction, some of the best new writing from Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria and Algeria, is mainly acquired from the AUC Press. Arabia Books will also be supported in its title selection by a panel of expert advisors in the UK, such as Professor Rasheed El-Enany, director of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter. Distribution of Arabia titles will be handled by Littlehampton Book Services, with sales representation undertaken by David Segrue and his newly-formed D J Segrue Ltd sales team.
